Conversations with A. Hepburn

“I believe in pink….I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls…”
— Audrey Hepburn

Dear Audrey, I agree…..and I couldn’t have said it better myself!

I believe in pink – light flowy pink skirts on hot and humid summer nights walking near the water, pink cheeks blushing from compliments, pretty pink lily’s on the kitchen table, sweet and sour pink lemonaide, pink clouds at sunrise and pretty pink lips…

I believe in kissing – a lot! I believe in the awkward first date kiss that you don’t exactly see coming – that surprises you and leaves you feeling tingly and giddy as if you were 17 again. I believe in deep and soft kisses that make your knees involuntarily bend and your hands shake. I believe in cuddling and kissing and laughing and staying in on a Saturday night. I believe in kisses on the neck and behind the knees and on the tip of your nose. And I will always believe in kissing…

I believe it can really feel like everything is all wrong – that everything you believed in and counted on failed and that you are crumbled and bleeding and on your knees begging for mercy, asking again “why, why, why.” And I believe it is possible to find strength in  yourself, to overcome, and to sport your scars with pride for having withstood pain that you never could have imagined living through. I believe its possible to make it on your own – but why would you want to do that? I believe in friends to hold you up in the hard times and celebrate the good times….

Audrey, I believe I’m beautiful – happy girls really are the prettiest girls, and I feel it. I know when simple joy is radiating from my core, reflecting back in the mirror. Life can cause scars and pain and cripping heartbreak –  you can be so sad sometimes, you feel disfigured – and yet, you overcome and become whole again.  Thanks for helping me through, and reminding me to wander on with feminine grace and poise.

Yes, Audrey, happy girls are the prettiest girls, and it takes finding peace in your heart to be a truly lovely young woman.

Audrey movies: cheaper than therapy; great fashion advice.
